Crafting for a Cause

Hello to all of my crafting friends! Hope you are having a phenomenal day!

I was able to use my talents for a great cause for the Make a Wish Foundation. My former employer always did philanthropic activities. One of the most touching was the fundraiser for granting a child's dream to visit Disney World. Although the child was adorable and had a very trying life in his four short years on earth, it was extremely touching for us as a group because we knew that it was the last time we were going to touch families as a collective group due to contract changes. Our group open their hearts and pockets at a time when they didn't know how they were going to make it in the upcoming months, some would be laid off, some would have to find other jobs at a lower pay, some didn't know how they were going to be able to pay for medical expenses if they lost their jobs, and the list goes on. As a company, we did lunches, raffles, auctions, craft and bake sales, etc., and a large majority of the items were done at the employees’ expense. I think that made it more special. We were all invested and committed into making this child's wish come true and not just send him to Disney World to meet Mickey, but his entire family including 2 older brothers.

Besides contributing to the lunches, I was asked to also assist with the craft sale. I was shocked because I usually make cards for friends and family; those that I know would appreciate and like my work although it isn't perfect. I was a nervous wreck about showcasing my work to my co-workers and others in the building. What if they didn’t sell? What should I charge for them? What if they don’t like my coloring? And I had many more reservations, but I thought what the heck! I started this blog to share my work and talents, so why not share it for a wonderful cause. Right?!?

The day of the sale, I had an offsite meeting, but I brought in 22 cards for sale. Some could have been sold in sets, others individually, but I told my crafty co-worker who is amazing by the way, that she can sell them how ever she wanted to.

Well, guess what? They sold! Yes, almost all of them even the ones I thought were awful. I was shocked and grateful! I used my hobby and talent for a greater good.

Here are a few pictures of some of the cards. The quality of the images isn’t great because I took most of them the morning of the show with my phone. But you get the idea!

Let me know your thoughts. Have you ever been afraid of sharing your gifts and talents? Are you afraid of being laughed at or judged?

I leave you with these bible verses to ponder:

“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10)

"But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere." (James 3:17)

Let the celebrations continue...

Hi there!

Hope everyone is having a great Sunday! I know it has been a while since my last post. I hope not to take such a long break going forward. Life has been really busy for me, but I have been crafting. So, I'll share some old and new projects in the upcoming days.

I found more celebration themed projects from last year that I would like to share with you.

Celebrations - Part 2

More Birthday Cards

Weddings

This is a card I made for my friend. It came out better than I expected. I will be making more of the silhouette cards in the future.

Babyshower

My co-worker at work had a baby in November. We planned a surprise baby shower for him and asked his wife to join in on the surprise. It was so cool! I was in charge of decorations and made the mustaches and those cute hot air balloons. Here are few pics of the "man" shower.

This is a babyshower card I made for my cousin.

Christmas

I love celebrating holidays, especially Christmas. Last year, I made all of our Christmas cards. It was fun because me and my mother-in-law took our first card-making class together at Archiver's. Here are few of the holiday cards I made. The Santa card (first one below) was really cool. It looked like a snow globe. I used Flower Soft, and it was so life-like. I will be making more of these in the future.

I have been making many more cards using Copic markers, and my skills are improving. I will share those in the next post.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend! Talk to you soon!

A little taste of my guilty pleasure

Hi and Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend!

Scrapping is my guilty pleasure because I love buying new goodies! Paper, stamps, tools, gadgets, markers, etc., they are all part of my obsession. Like many of you out there, my husband is always asking, "Was it necessary to buy more paper?" And of course, the answer is always "YES!"

Well to justify my purchases, I try to make use of the items I buy. That way, I won't feel too guilty about the money I've spent on my guilty pleasures. Here are a few of the projects I made last year. I will try to categorize some these projects, so you may see a degree of progression in my skills. (At least I hope you will see improvement in my work!)

Let's start with Celebrations - Birthdays

Here is a card I made for my niece. She is 10 years old, and I can't believe it! She was my first real life Cabbage Patch Kid, and I fell in love with her from the first moment I saw her. She continues to keep me on my toes! She requested a rock girl birthday card, and this is what I came up with. She loved it!

My grandmother loves flowers. Her birthday is in December, so I made her this red flower card. It was elegant and classy, just like her. Now that I'm doing a blog, I need to take better pictures, huh? Sorry!

Who doesn't love a shaped card? It allows you to make personalized and unique cards. This is a sweet card I made using my Gypsy. It was my first attempt at welding images together. Not bad for my first time, huh? Twinkle Toes is one of my favorite Cricut cartridges. It has such adorable cuts.

Product used:

Reaching a milestone

Hello! Today, I am reaching a milestone in my life. I am actually writing my first blog. YAY! (And you are reading it! Double YAY!) What a great feeling! Here I am joining the world that I enjoy in my spare time, reading and looking at everyone's great work.

So a little bit about myself, I've been scrapbooking for many years but didn't have much time to scrap. Or should I say, didn't make enough time to scrap. Then about two years ago, my wonderful husband surprised me with the Cricut Expression. It was on from there! :-) I made all sorts of projects and have been soooo hooked ever since. When reviewing videos on YouTube, I realized how many great companies, tools and crafters were out there. So, I started following many blogs and shared my passion with family and friends.

I decided that 2013 is the year. I will begin sharing my work with others and also participating in challenges.  I don't know how many followers I will get, but I hope that I will keep you entertained and keep checking back to Blessings By Hand. I will post a few of the projects I have made throughout the last year in my next post.

Stayed tuned and blessed!
